Stu’s Web Wednesday: Team Four Star
Like I said in my Web Wednesday for JewWario, I don't really watch all that much anime. The only series I actively remember watching from beginning to end was the Funimation dubbed version of the original Dragonball. Then I saw the beginning of Dragonball Z and was instantly turned off. So why would I feature a crew that utilizes something I actively didn't like? Because Team Four Star took something I didn't particularaly care for, shortened it and made it hilariously funny.
To best illistrate what Team Four Star does, which is "abridging", I'll share their one shot parody of DragonBall Z Kai (the "new" Dragonball Z series that is a shortened and abridged version of the orginal series), which condenses their whole season one into 2:10.
Still don't get it? Let me explain, Team Four Star is apart of the abridging community, which are either individuals or groups who take some source material, generally an anime of some sort, and cut down the episodes to generally under 10 minutes and re-edit and re-record the dialog for humorous effect. The whole thing was pretty much god-fathered by LittleKuriboh and Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, but Team Four Star took it, ran with it and pretty much perfected it. The animation and voices fit so well and are iconic in both their rights that the odd times I see the real show, it feels weird. It just doesn't sound right. Of course, it could be a little longer if the original source material is a little longer, like a full movie condensed to 20 minutes or so.
Of course, even these teams need some downtime. Luckily, they record that too as a series of Let's Plays of usually Left 4 Dead 2 (though there's a complete run of Halo:Reach in there too)
This is actually a concept I've played around with to blatantly stea....I mean lovingly homage to with our crew here at Save Point.
Team Four Star can be found on their website, which has every episode of the show and every Let's Play. They also have a group twitter, which can also lead to all their individual twitters as well. Follow them all! Gotta catch um' all! Wait...wrong show. Nevermind.

Dude, how could you not like DragonBall Z? It’s like the best anime ever, next to Trigun.

When DBZ came out in the US, I was 10. It just didn’t appeal to me for some reason.

I didn’t know that it hit the states before cartoon network picked it up. When I finally saw it, it was great… until they showed those 3-episodes-for-one-super-charged-attack crap.

Oh trust me, Martin’s on the mental list. I might not do them 1-2 like that, but I definitely will. Maybe once more of Marik’s Let’s Play of Vampire: The Masquerade is done…

LOL, I’d totally watch a Save Point LP.

Cool! I’ve completely toyed with it being L4D2 at that, seeing how much joy and rapture Lisa’s garnered from that game…

CHOCOLATE HELICOPTERS!
I support this idea. I was thinking to myself recently ‘if Oprah can make an entire show using nothing but Skype, what exactly is stopping almost every internet show/site (Save Point included)?’
Get to it now! DO IT! GET TO THE CHOCOLATE HELICOPTERS!!!
