Music Monday: Marseille by octapus
It's Monday which means more chip and blippy goodness coming at you because this track has been constantly playing on my iPod when it's in my ears. It's by an artist named octapus out in Sweden. It was one of those bopping around on Soundcloud (where I've found a LOT of really awesome chiptune stuff) and was an immediate download. It's got that high intensity stuff out of the gate and breaks down almost into a close to wubless dubstep breakdown in the middle. Though many would think that wubless dubstep is the saddest, the break down really sets it apart. So listen and rock out.

Music…uh…Tuesday: MegaAir by Pixel8ter
So I delayed Music Monday because of the special premier that happened yesterday. I gotta do my part to keep promotion going, even if it's shutting up for a bit. But this came late Monday night and I totally had to pass it along. This one came to my consciousness originally from the Chip Beat netlabel known as GameChops, founded by one of my favorite DJs, and multi-time Music Monday showcase, DJ Cutman. This particular track was made by "child of the 8-Bit Generation" Pixel8ter, cutting and slicing the Air Man's level music from Mega Man 2 into this Drum and Bass Chiptune beat. If you check out his Soundcloud, there's also a really awesome dubstepish chiptuneish remix of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" along with some other chiptune goodness. Listen and feel like shooting a Mega Buster repeatedly into your desk fan.

Music Monday: Kavinsky – Nightcall (Scattle 8-Bit Remix)
Seeing everyone ever seems to be going to E3 today, might as well give some Driving music. Of course, we've gotta do it in our own Chiptuney way. So today we'll feature a covery of Kavinsky's "Nightcall" by chiptune (among other things) artist Scattle. Why is this travel music? Because the song was featured on the soundtrack to the film "Drive". A stretch I know, but it's what you got.

Music Monday: “Chips Ahoy Mateys” by Big Giant Circles
It's a foregone conclusion, seeing we have Trash80's link right next to this and also our countless posts on the subject, we enjoy chiptune here. Well, here's one that I've heard remixed, but I wanted to give the original it's due. The song, with its piratey motif, makes me think of an sprite animated Guybrush sailing in The Sea Monkey back and forth between Melee and Monkey Islands. And anything to put me into that mindset is a good thing. Big Giant Circle's whole album where this came from, "Impostor Nostalgia" is full of these fantastic tunes that sound like could come from your favorite NES or SNES game, but don't. Hence the name. I also highly suggest "Fight the Current", "Katana Blaster", and "HappiNESs (featuring Disasterpeace)". Heck, just buy the whole darn album.

Music Monday: Breakin’ Daft Punk (Zedd vs Skrillex Vs. The Doors Vs. Daft Punk) by DJ Cutman
You know how much I enjoy DJ Cutman. Well, he hit it out of the park, clear around the world, back into the park and out to the bleachers with this most recent mash-up. Since it dropped yesterday, I don't think I've stopped playing it. I dare you to play this and not dance about your respective rooms. I say it is impossible. IMPOSSIBLE!

Music Monday: “I’m the One That’s Cool” by The Guild
Yes, that "The Guild". You know it. You've probably seen it. Well, now they've released a new "Geek Anthem" as it's being called. I gotta say, it's pretty damn catchy. It's also the kicker for Felicia Day and Co.'s new YouTube network Geek and Sundry (which launched today), a network with various videos from cult/Internet/"nerd" celebs like Wil Wheaton, Veronica Belmont, Paul & Storm and Felicia herself to motion comics from Dark Horse Comics and shows literally written by children. So subscribe to them, because the rest of the Internet is going to.

Music Monday: “Song of HEY!” by The Amazing Brand0
Everyone who's played Ocarina of Time knows the Song of Storms. Creepy organ grinder guy, windmill, make it rain anytime you want without throwing Rupees in the air, whole nine yards. Well, The Amazing Brand0 had a different idea and apparently ten minitues for this concept: What if Link didn't play it? What if it was sung by someone who was near Link? Music…um…Tuesday: DJ Cutman Live at MAGFest X
Yes yes yes, I'm still working on my MAGFest stuff. It's been chaos since then. Just deal. But in the meantime, let me share one of the highlights of the show for me: DJ Cutman's set at 1 in the morning in the Friday night. Or technically Saturday morning. Whatever. I've been following Cutman since MAGFest last year when he was out in the dealer room all the time mixing on the fly. So I was super excited when he was announced as a main talent for MAGFest X, after many years doing exactly what was mentioned before. The mix above, which is the direct cut of what he played, is the example why GameChops 1 and the promo mix of GameChops 2 (because I'm that awesome) are constant in my car. 1. 8 Bit Weapon's new album, Bits With Byte
My pals Seth and Michelle (a.k.a. ComputeHer!) are better known on the netterwebz and in iTunes libraries everywhere as 8 Bit Weapon, and they create some totally rad music with their GameBoys and other neat-o hardware that can sometimes double as Mario-playing machines. Their new album, Bits With Byte, is awesome, and I recommend you take a listen! They are cool people and even cooler musicians, so show some love.
2. Weekly Beats 2012
Trash80, better known as my favorite chipmusic musician of all time ever EVER, is the genius behind the brand new Weekly Beats project. This concept involves musicians and artists everywhere composing one (1) song per week FOR THE REST OF ETERNITY. ...Or at least until the end of the year. This means you're bound to hear some really cool experimental stuff from really talented people. They're just moving into week 3, so you can easily catch up on the cool tunes already posted.
