Double Fine Adventure: Tim Schafer Is Creating A Classic Point-And-Click Game With Our Help!

Monkey Island.

Grim Fandango.

Day of the Tentacle.

You guys know these are my favorite games of all time. They turned me into a gamer. Ron Gilbert is my hero. Tim Schafer is my OTHER hero. I'm incredibly passionate about the point-and-click adventure genre, and have experienced the heartbreak of watching it become a dying artform, just like tap dancing, and Pogs. TellTale Games has done its best to keep adventure gaming somewhat alive, but it has been nothing compared to now.

We're talking a FAN-FUNDED OLD-SCHOOL ADVENTURE GAME, developed by my heroes, Tim and Ron.

Someone get the defibrillators, my heart just exploded like an illegal firework.

Guys. This is it. This is what I've... we've been waiting for. The project pledged $400,000, yet it's already raised $950,000 in under 24 hours. It will no doubt reach a million in just a few more hours. I'm clicking refresh every five minutes like a neurotic eBayer.

Donate. Donate like you can afford it. Donate like you really do care about charities and dying kids in Africa or whatever. You know why? Because those dying kids in Africa don't have a good adventure game. Give it to them, Daddy Warbucks. Give it to them so super hard.

In addition to creating a game that is for the fans and (in a way) by the fans without having to worry about pleasing investors and publishers and other bossy rich snobs, Double Fine will also be showing you behind-the-scenes footage of the entire process along the way. The best part? This is being filmed and produced by my pals based in Portland, Oregon known as 2 Player Productions. You may be familiar with their Minecraft documentary and their awesome chip music documentary, "Reformat The Planet."

This is the adventure of an adventure gamer's lifetime. Be apart of it. If not for you...

Do it for Dr. Fred.

Do it for Manny.

Do it for Guybrush.

** UPDATE **

We did it, adventure gamers!

  1. PICK UP Wallet
    GIVE All your money
OPEN Your heaarrtt to meee babyyy.

  2. FOR REAL?! It’s not April 1st! YES! I’ve been waiting for this for so long!

    I sense something…a presence I haven’t felt since…

  3. Altogether now: A MEEEEEEELION DOLLLLLARS! *Pinkie fingers up*

  4. “Salutes Tim Schafer”

  5. Holy bejeezus thats a ton of money in a short amount of time

  6. I donated $1000 last night when it was still under $300,000. To see it jump to over a million dollars in a single day is nothing short of extraordinary. I would have gladly donated more if I didn’t have plans of my own.

Viva la Schafer! (Viva la Gilbert and Double Fine too).

Also, Brutal Legend on PC plz.

    • Holy crap, I wish I had $1,000 to donate!! Props and cheers.

      • Consider it a ‘Save Point’ contribution for everyone here. Same goes for ‘Your Friends Close’ and ‘The League of Steam’.

Although props to the dude who dropped $10,000. I wish I had balls to donate that much.

        • Thank you much Klink! I wish I had $1,000 disposable period.

          • Hey, I have an idea. When this game is released sometime in September/October, I’m sure I’ll have saved up enough money to buy multiple copies. How about Save Point holds an open game give-away? Save Point provides the marketing, I’ll provide the product and together we’ll make people excited for Adventure games again!

Although, how many copies? 10? 20?

  7. I threw this onto the Save Point twitter as soon as Tim announced it. I’m so hyped to see it explode the way it did. Hopefully all, or many, games will be made this way from now on. I’m scrounging so much to see if I’ve got $250 for the autographed poster…

Oh, and I’m doing it for Guybrush. There’s a lot of things I do for Guybrush…

  8. While I never doubted Double Fine would achieve their intended goal I was surprised by how fast they achieved it. According to Kotaku at one point they raised $23,353 in 22 minutes.

  9. Not worth dipping into my son’s college fund for this, I’m afraid. But I’ll cough up some tequila money.

Did anyone besides me ever play Starship Titanic?

  10. Don’t get me wrong: I’m super excited about this and am definitely backing it. Grim Fandango and Full Throttle are two of my favorite adventure games EVER, and Psychonauts and Tim Schafer’s current stuff is excellent as well. But even before this, there actually have been a few other interesting-looking adventure games coming out from indie games designers. Gemini Rue and To the Moon being the main ones that spring to mind. Personally, I’m hoping this heralds at least a minor rebirth of the genre.

    • Gemini Rue is fantastic and I still need to play To The Moon and the entire Blackwell series. Also, The Book Of Unwritten Tales looks absolutely gorgeous. If you’re looking into pure 2D adventuring, I recommend (if you can overlook the rushed ending and some nonsense puzzles) The Whispered World.
